The ever elusive Danielle Flores is Flowers And Bulls. While an initial listen to her debut Albino Crow single “A Traveling Circus” b/w “ Song With No Name” might bewilder some that know her more wild barfly side, these fragile, narcotic lullabies end up being the perfect companions to come down easy with after any night of revelry. A far more rustic Mazzy Star might come to mind quickly during the first minute or so, but then a whole new miniature music box tenderness unfolds – a syrupy voice weaving through fragmented vibrato and weird field-noise masquerading as devil-may-care imperfection but by the end it is what makes it stand out from any other contemporary female mutant folk of this ilk. Distinctly recorded by the haunted cave-like Midus touch of Greg Ashley of The Gris Gris, Dutchess And The Duke (he also plays drums on this recording), the match couldn’t have been more heavenly. Chris
from Silver Jews plays piano on this as well – not to get “all-star” about a recording this gorgeously minimal…the songs themselves need no further persuasion. .. .. .. .. .
